Repeat stalker Damien Buckley has been sentenced in Darwin local court for unlawful stalking and trespass offences against his female neighbour in Palmerston.
Haunting footage attained by The Mango Inquirer reveals Buckley dropping off gifts, and prowling around underneath the woman’s house, before disabling her cameras.
During sentencing at Darwin local court today, Judge Fong Lim described the 49-year-old offender as showing “no remorse”, sending him to prison for three months, with an additional 12 months suspended upon release.
In her sentencing remarks today, Judge Fong-Lim described Buckley as being unable to “accept” when a woman doesn’t want a relationship with him.
Speaking to The Mango Inquirer, Buckley’s latest victim said she finally felt a sense of justice.
“My stalker has been found guilty not only of stalking and trespass but also for breaching the protective order.
“His actions have inflicted deep fear on me and my five-year-old daughter, robbing us of the safety that should be our home.
“For 17 months we lived on edge, hyper-vigilant to every sound, constantly looking over our shoulders.
“The impact is harder to explain to people; always fearing him returning and coming back to do far worse.
“Despite a full non-contact protective order, he continued to harass us, showing a blatant disregard for the law and our lives.
“I’ve had to put our home on the market, a painful reminder of the sanctuary he invaded.
“I hope he learns his lesson, and I stand firm in my belief that no woman should endure such vile, unforgivable actions.
“Everyone deserves to live free from fear.
“At least now we can have some closure on the absolute shit show it’s been.”
In 2019, the former firefighter was sacked from his job and jailed for harassing and stalking his first victim over eight months.
He pleaded guilty in 2019 to a string of charges, including using a telephone to harass, breaching a domestic violence order and unlawful entry.
Items were stolen from his first victim’s residence, including her mobile phone, framed pictures of her father and her work handbag.
The court also heard that Buckley phoned his first victim from an unknown number and said: “I hope you had a good day celebrating the day of your dad’s death, you dirty s—.”
When Buckley was sentenced in 2019 to six weeks in prison, judge Morris described his offending as “very concerning and frightening behaviour”.
Charges relating to DVO breaches against his current victim are still with the police.
Buckley’s support in court today included a high-profile Darwin lawyer, who attended sentencing dressed in a singlet.
