The Mango Inquirer can exclusively reveal some of the allegations behind an incident at the home of a suspended NT police officer, that led to domestic violence charges being laid yesterday.
NT Police revealed in a media release late yesterday that an unnamed officer had been "served a Notice to Appear in connection with an incident on 21 September 2024."
"The officer has been suspended with pay and is
scheduled to appear in Darwin Local Court on 9
December 2024.
"This information has been provided in accordance
with the NT Police Transparency Guidelines."
What wasn't revealed was the constables' court hearing scheduled this morning, where the alleged victim was due to have a DVO application heard.
Thanks to a source that knew they could trust The Mango Inquirer, we got a heads up with the news tip, and attended the hearing.
Low and behold, we were stunned to see the suspended NT police officer there in person, taking up a seat one seat away from us outside court room three, while the matter started inside.
It's our understanding that it's "excused if represented" for the defendant in these kinds of DVO applications.
Not to be distracted by the golden goose that just landed in my lap, and determined to refocus on the story at hand, Mango took a gamble on which lawyer would be representing him and followed defence barrister Richard Bryson into the room.
In under 40 seconds the matter was heard and adjourned to November 12th, with barely a word audible in what sounded like a series of mumblings.
Not even our audio recorder could pick up what was being said, but I could make out the words "Palmer" and "two weeks to see where we can get to".
The Mango Inquirer has permanent hearing loss.
We attempted a brief interview outside the court house with Palmer but got nowhere.
This publication can now reveal that in the hours leading up to the incident, former Territory Labor MLA Tony Sievers enjoyed the company of the alleged domestic violence cop, along with two female companions.
Tony Sievers was contacted this morning for comment on his "boy's night out" with Gary Palmer prior to the incident.
Sievers shared: "Hi Shannon apologies but I can’t comment as it’s before the court n want the justice system to sort the matter appropriately kind regards Tony".
It's our information the neighbours allegedly called the police to Palmer's address.
To avoid prejudicing the case, we'll leave the matter at that, for now.
This publication does not imply Tony Sievers played a role in the alleged domestic violence incident.
