Eight months after receiving an eviction notice from Galuwin’ku community elders, the school principal of Shepherdson College is still holding onto his position.
The Mango Inquirer has viewed correspondence between the complainants and the Teacher Registration Board of NT, but it’s our understanding the outcome of a report handed down this year cannot be released due to whistleblower laws that would prevent a freedom on information request being granted.
Mango has not lodged FOI request.
At this stage we do not intend to detail the specific allegations publicly on nepotism, fraud, and bullying, but it’s our understanding they originate from staff and parents.
The Mango Inquirer does not imply the allegations to be true.
The eviction notice read: “We the Galuwin’ku Community Elders believe you are not here in our community for the right reasons and that you have failed to empower Yolgnu children and staff.
“[We] instruct that you are to leave our community and leave our school. We prefer to have someone here who has pure intentions and the best interests of our community and the best interests of Yolgnu students and staff at the forefront.
“Unfortunately, Joe Hewitt, you are not that person.
“[We] instruct that you don’t insult us any further by resisting our demands.
“There is no option for you to enter into any discussion or negotiation with us on this matter, as we have made our firm decision.
“We instruct that you remove yourself from Galuwin’ku permanently by Monday 11th December 2023.”
Updates on the situation as they become available.
