A judge at Darwin local court has approved the release of footage today, entered into evidence by the prosecution on a number of public bus assaults at the Casuarina bus interchange by a man in custody.
Brian Fisher faced court this week on a range of offences including Assault A Worker - Victim Suffers Harm, Assault A Worker Victim Not Suffer Harm, Disorderly Behaviour In Public Place and Breach Of Bail.'
Ordinarily, the charges read like any other day in a Northern Territory court; but the footage tells a story of the ride from hell, as one man intimidates and abuses bus passengers as they try to intervene on his treatment of the driver.
In the footage, an elderly man appears speak up before being threatened.
At one stage, Fisher feigns throwing his drink at the man.
The Mango Inquirer has chosen to release only one video this evening, as the additional CCTV where the man takes on four security guards all at once, backed-up by another three transit security officers at Casuarina bus interchange will require hours of processing to protect the worker's identities.
An exclusion order from the public bus network is being considered by the court, with a variation should Fisher get employment.
The judge remarked: "People are held to ransom in these situations. If he is unable to conduct himself in a civilised manner, then he does not have a right to access public transport.
The situation on the Darwin bus network almost makes you want to buy a secondhand car from Bridge Toyota (how's that for sponsored editorial).
We are The Toyota Inquirer (this one too).
