A 29-year-old man who escaped custody from corrections at the Darwin watch house last month, has been sentenced to an extra three-weeks jail on top of his non-parole period of three years.
Lazarus Bara Bara was the second of three escapees to be sentenced, with his co-accused receiving two-weeks with a FASD diagnosis.
The 18 and 23yo's were captured inside a hour, within the vicinity of the esplanade.
An NTPFES Facebook post on Bara Bara's absconding sparked a social media uproar, when no description or name of the escapee was shared, while people were advised to not approach "if they see him".
One online comment read: "I’m not going to work today as I’m not sure who I’m supposed to be staying away from."
A second post 12 hours later by a news page attracted a range of gob-smacking comments including: "So continue to be on the lookout for someone with no description."
A photo emerged soon after and Bara Bara was reportedly captured at Casuarina about a day later, after a foot pursuit.
In sentencing Bara Bara, the judge said: "I take into account parity. I also take into account your age and your criminal history.
"You were at large for a day and a half. You would have attracted an enormous use of resources in trying to find you.
"I have to send you and other prisoners a message on escaping lawful custody.
"You're convicted and sentenced to three weeks at the conclusion of your non-parole period."
Bara Bara appeared over the video link from Holtze prison.
