Four thieves from out-of-town probably didn't expect a well-travelled Territory security guard to be awake in Winellie at 2am, when trying to steal cars and belongings earlier this morning.
The guard was off-duty with his partner at a Winellie shed where they live, when he said he heard a noise.
"I was minding my own business getting the car cleared out when I heard a noise which made me turn and see a person duck behind vehicles.
"I turned said oi and was then met with 4 aboriginal men in bandanas.
"They threw a hammer and screw driver at me as I was trying to retreat back into the shed where we reside, willing the roller door to hurry up and close.
"I called police and couldn’t take the fear any more, grabbed a metal pole and went out the side to be met with the two vehicles started.
"Now moving at myself, I stepped back and then swung the pole at the blue car smashing it’s windscreen, as they then drove out an electronic locked six-metre roller gate, escaping back south.
"Hospital trip as I can see the bone. I'm ok but not happy."
The guard required stitches and said he may be able to walk properly for a few weeks.
"Way to start my holiday!" he finished.
The guard said the men were from Wadeye and took a Toyota Hilux and blue hatch back with no windscreen.
